Modjadji is an organization that aims to create a collective platform for advancement with the assistance of successful business women.

The empowerment of women has become a significant topic of discussion across the world. Many of the barriers to women’s empowerment and equality are ingrained in cultural norms. Some of these norms have always painted women as inferior beings with little or no rights. Empowering women creates an environment where women can make their own decisions on improving their personal situations as well as what contribution they would like to make to their community or society.
Evidence shows that women can be, and are, powerful drivers of the economy. Although women perform 66% of the world’s work, and produce 50% of the food, they only earn only 10% of the income and own 1% of the property in the world. This has been no different in the South African context. The 2010 Census figures have shown that an estimated 51% of women within the country are active contributors to South Africa’s GDP – a number which indicates that the employment rate of women is higher than that of men; however women still don’t make half as much as men or own half as much property as men, because women are mostly employed in informal sectors, clerical work, caretaking and retail fields where they have very minimal influence in decision making. Without a doubt, female representation in top-tier business is still lagging. A 2011 census showed that of all Directors in South Africa, only 16% are women. Accordingly, the 2011 FNB White Paper on Female Entrepreneurship revealed worrying statistics that only 38% of established businesses within South Africa are women owned. We at Modjadji are researching ways and means in which we can fight gender inequalities and how we can empower women.

The Modjadji network is an ISO 9001:2015 accredited organization. Yet we see ourselves as a body that brings about and implements change. Most of the projects that we are creating and implementing are based on feedback that we receive from you. This way we create an organization that does everything we can to empower you. Modjadji is also open to work with any organization that supports our goals and our message. We are not in the business of competing with organizations, our priority is empowering women that are deserving. We believe in inclusiveness and we reflect this in our approach to running Modjadji.

Of course contributing to the network will get you a whole world of benefits. However, if we truly want to advance the interests of women then we need an inclusive message. As a result Modjadji will launch surveys that all business and professional women can participate in. The more answers we get, the louder the voice becomes and the stronger the message will be.
